Recently I watched the film “Hello My Name Is Doris”, an American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Michael Showalter from a screenplay by Showalter and Laura Terruso. It’s all about Doris who had been stuck in a rut for a long time.
Doris Was Stuck In Her Life
Doris was stuck in her life. She’d lived with her mother all her life, caring for her in her old age, and worked in the same job for 20 years. She’s a hoarder, hanging onto everything from the past which holds any sentimentally or even the slightest amount of usefulness, including one ski and a bunch of old shampoo bottles …. Doris also collects items discarded by others. She can’t let go of anything.
Doris is not alone, there are loads of people doing this in their life in some shape or form. And, it’s holding them back from achieving the inspired life and goals they want to achieve. They hang on to objects, people, and stories from the past, things which clutter and stagnate their life. It also stops them from leading an inspired life, one which fulfills them at a deeper level.
Moving From Stuck To Possible
After the death of her aging mother, she had a close encounter with a newly arrived much younger man at her work who she was very attracted to – it awakens something within her. Later she went along to hear a motivation speaker who was launching a book where the key message was a re-frame on impossibility – instead of seeing the ”Impossible”. See “I’m Possible” …. This strikes a chord with Doris and becomes her new mantra. She began to consider ‘I’m possible’ with this much younger man, which took her on an enlivening journey. Along the way, she has lots of new experiences and opportunities for moving on in her life.
Doris’s mothers death, while sad, provides a series of opportunities for her to stay stuck in her cluttered life or move on; to say yes or no to renewing her life. She is exposed to various people and situations which push and perturbate her (click here to read more about perturbation “The Role Of Perturbation In Goal Achievement) to shift and breakthrough to new possibilities.

I love helping people to renew their life by connecting with what’s truly important, creating goals that inspire and empowering them to take action. It gives me such a great sense of satisfaction to watch clients shifting from a place of impossibility to possibility (“I’m Possible). And it’s over the years I’ve had the privilege of seeing this with many clients. It gives them a whole new perspective for overcoming their blocks so they can move from stuck to creating, implementing and achieving their important dreams and aspirations.
The first step in progressing any goal or dream is to make a firm decision to move forward – that’s when you start to shift from stuck to possible. The second step is to take action and to keep the momentum moving.
What are you doing today to get unstuck and breakthrough to success?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic, so please share your comments below …
