If you look at any success story in any industry, profession or area you will find that they have had to overcome adversity in a variety of ways in order to create their success. The adversities they faced, disturbed them from their normal way of operating and created pressure to respond differently. This transformational pressure, which enabled them to achieve success, is part of the process referred to as Perturbation.
Perturbation Defined
Perturbation can be defined as: a disturbance of motion, course, arrangement, or state of equilibrium; especially: a disturbance of the regular and usually elliptical course of motion of a celestial body that is produced by some force additional to that which causes its regular motion. This process of disturbance or irregularity happens at a cellular level. It leads to a permanent level of change.
Perturbation Is The Driving Force of Evolution In Nature
Through studies of nature and how organisms transform under pressure, we see the perturbation process in action – it is the driving force behind evolution in nature. Perturbation causes alterations in the biological systems of organisms, through changes in external or internal pressure which encourage it to change. At a certain vibrational threshold it will start to break down the bonds which keeps it fixed in its normal state.
As long as the organism is supported with a ‘container’ or cocoon which holds it in place while it rearranges the cells into a new more complex pattern (one which can withstand the pressure), it will take on the properties of the pressure applied to it. Thus enabling it to develop into a stronger structure for surviving environmental pressures.
If however the organism is left unsupported and alone, it will move to a state of chaos or disintegrate due to the pressure. The same will happen if it’s always been protected, and hasn’t developed it’s own strength to resist and survive the environmental pressures. Some examples of structures transforming under pressure include:
- Wood transforming into coal and then transforming into diamonds
- Caterpillars transforming into butterflies
- An acorn transforming into an oak tree
The Role Of Perturbation In Human Transformation
The same perturbation which happens in nature also happens in humans (after all we’re cellular too!). In our lives, perturbation comes from the adversities, challenges and hardships that arise from the time we are born until the time we die. The chaotic change can come from every area of life including health, finances, relationships, jobs, business, government, community etc. Intense perturbation experiences can come in many forms including infertility, giving birth, death, marriage, divorce, financial gains/losses, job gains/losses, disease and many others.
Perturbation enables us to become stronger. It is through these types of events and experiences that we learn to handle changes thrown our way. Facing challenges gives us the opportunity to summons our inner resources, strengthens our ability to respond, transforming our ability to overcome and to make us better prepared for future diversity.
There’s no transformation without perturbation. How you respond to the pressure completely determines your ability to transform into a new level of order, or disintegrate into chaos. It also determines your ability to achieve your life goals and your business goals. Watch out for part 2 on this topic for more clues on empowering you to achieve your goals.
